   Tutorials and instruction guides for the CM Password Manager can be found here.

2. The Web site cannot be learned. [to the top]

   Please check the following things:

   1. Are the input fields on the Web site dyed?

   2. Is the Web site filled in when the entry is created manually in the CM Password Manager?

   3. Is a session established when the Web site is accessed? For that purspose a session ID is generated that is included in the address of the Web site. The consequence is that everytime the site will have another address and cannot be located by the CM Password Manager. These kind of Web sites cannot be learned or completed.

   4. Do you use the Firefox browser instead of the Internet Explorer? If so, is the CM Password Manager plugin installed? Further information

   5. Internet Explorer settings:
      Maybe the Internet Explorer add-on was disabled that is required to learn and fill in Web sites. The validation of this works on Windows XP Servicepack 2 / Windows Vista. Please do the following: Open the Internet Explorer and select Extras - Manage Add-ons... Select the entry "FormPlugIn Class" of the vendor "WIBU-SYSTEMS AG" and check under settings if the option "Enable" was checked.

3. The Login data is not transfered into the Web site. [to the top]

   1. Did you create an entry for this Web site in the CM Password Manager? You can check this with the CM Password Manager itself.
      Maybe the entry does not match the Web site that you are currently visiting. Please ensure that you are on the correct Web site since phishing attacks simulate the original page.

   2. For Mac and Linux the CM Password Manager needs to run to enable the plugins or the keychain to fill in and learn any entries.

   3. Internet Explorer settings:
      Maybe the Internet Explorer Add-on was disabled which is required to learn and fill in Web sites. The validation of this works currently on Windows XP Servicepack 2 / Windows Vista. Please do the following: Open the Internet Explorer and select Extras - Manage Add-ons... Select the entry "FormPlugIn Class" of the vendor "WIBU-SYSTEMS AG" and check under settings if the option "enable" was checked.

   4. Does the fill in work with the Internet Explorer but not with the Firefox browser?
      If this applies please consider the Firefox plugin guide.

   5. If a Web site is not filled in after learning: Is a session established when the Web site is accessed? For that purspose a session ID is generated that is included in the address of the Web site. The consequence is that everytime the site will have a different address and cannot be located by the CM Password Manager. These kind of Web sites cannot be learned or completed.

   6. If you use the Safari browser on Mac, the keychain is used to transfer the data between CM Password Manager and Safari. If any problem occurs you should additionally check whether the Web site can be found inside the keychain.

4. How can I allow to learn a specific Web site again that is currently blocked? [to the top]

   Since version 3.20 of CM Password Manager you can edit the blacklist of Web sites inside the CM Password Manager. Please open the dialog using File - Edit Blacklist.

   To allow a specific page to be learned / filled in again for older versions please do the following:

   1. Search the file CmPwdBrowser.wbc on your computer:

      • Windows: installation prior to version 3.20: %Programme%\CodeMeter\PwdManager\CmPwdBrowser.wbc

      • Windows: new installation since version 3.20: %Benutzerverzeichnis%\Application Data\WIBU-SYSTEMS\CM Password Manager\CmBrowser.wbc

      • Windows Vista: %Benutzerverzeichnis%\AppData\LocalLow\WIBU-SYSTEMS\CM Password Manager/CmBrowser.wbc

      • Mac and Linux: $(HOME)/.config/WIBU-SYSTEMS/CM Password Manager/CmBrowser.wbc

   2. Open the configuration file CmPwdBrowser.wbc with an editor.

   3. The names of denied Web sites are below the key "[IgnoredDomains]".

   4. Delete these entries and restart the CM Password password manager. The settings will now become effective.

   Now the Web site can be learned again.

5. "An incorrect data format was found" at CM Password Manager startup. [to the top]

   Is the latest version of the CM Password Manager installed on your computer. The latest version can be downloaded from here.

   If the problem persists please contact the support as described here. Please remember to include the result of CmDust to your e-mail. Additionally please tell us, which data format is shown by the CM Password Manager Utility.

6. How can I move entries to another category? [to the top]

   To move entries to other categories within the CM Password Manager from version 3.0 is required. To move an entry just select the entry and press the right mouse button. It is essential that the type of the target category fits the source category. E.g. you can only move entries of a Web form category into a Web form category:

   

7. Is the CM Password Manager able to fill in Samba and FTP logins on Mac? [to the top]

   To create Samba logins, you need to create an entry of type Web-Site. Enter the URL of the server in the field URL. The URL has to contain also the used protocol (smb://). Additionally the used port has to be set (normally 139). Sample: smb://SERVERNAME:139 Additionally the domain of the network has to be added. The domain is shown at the time of login in the dialog in the area area.

   To create FTP logins, you need to create an entry of type Web-Site. Enter the URL of the FTP server and the port (normally 21). Sample: ftp://SERVERNAME/PATH:21
   For FTP logins you need not to specify the domain.

8. What does phishing mean? [to the top]

   In computing, phishing is a criminal activity using social engineering techniques. Phishers attempt to fraudulently acquire sensitive information, such as usernames, passwords and credit card details, by masquerading as a trustworthy entity in an electronic communication by faking Web Sites.

9. How can I import TAN- or iTAN lists into my CM Password Manager? [to the top]

   To import a TAN or iTAN list please do the follwing:

   1. Scan the list that contains the TANs/iTANs.

   2. Convert this file to into machine-editable text via an OCR software and store this data in a simple text file. Normally such an OCR software is included in the software package of your scanner.

   3. Now you can import this file in your CM Password Manager.

   The best result will be established when spaces are used as separators between the index number and the TAN/iTAN. Possibly the text file must be reworked until the CM Password Manager interprets this data correctly. This depends on the TAN/iTAN list and the OCR software settings.

10. How many passwords can be stored into the CmStick? [to the top]

    Altogehter the CM Password Manager can store 12 categories: When only Web forms of Web sites are stored the CM Password Manager can hold about 200 formulars (15 entries in every category). Standard data entries or entries of the type Web site can be about 25-35 per category (300 up to 400 entries per CmStick).

11. How can I use the CM Password Manager as a mobile application? [to the top]

    To set up the CM Password Manager as a mobile application a CmStick/M (with flash memory) is required. Different variants of CmSticks/M can be purchased in our Shop.
    If you already have a CmStick/M please read the following tutorial that illustrates the setup and usage of the portable CM Password Manager and the portable Firefox browser.

12. Does the automatic fill in work with the Firefox browser? [to the top]

    Yes this is possible but you have to install the Firefox plugin.

13. How can I create a backup of my CM Password Manager entries? [to the top]

    To backup your CM Password Manager data use the CM Password Manager utlility that is designed to backup your CM Password Manager content. The CM Password Manager utility is located under Start - Programs - CM Password Manager - Utility. This encrypted backup file (database file) contains all CM Password Manager data. The backup file can also be transferred to other CmSticks. How this works is explained in this tutorial.

14. Is the CM Password Manager data deleted from my CmStick when the CM Password Manager is uninstalled? [to the top]

    No, this data remains on your CmStick. This data can only be read by the CM Password Manager.
    If you want to remove the CM Password Manager data from your CmStick please use the CM Password Manager utility.

15. Has the CM Password Manager the ability to transfer passwords to Windows Dialogs automatically? [to the top]

    Yes this feature is implemented in the latest version of the CM Password Manager. How this works is described here.

16. The Firefox plugin cannot be installed. [to the top]

    Maybe the installation of browser extensions was disabled.
    Please open the Firefox browser and access the configuration page of your browser via about:config.
    xpinstall.enabled must be true. If the plugin is not compatible to the Firefox browser version, please update your browser. Please note that on Linux and Windows different plugins are available. Further instructions regarding the Firefox plugin can be found here.

    

    Now it should be possible to install the Firefox plugin.

17. Since I installed the CM Password Manager the Internet Explorer starts decelerated. What is the reason for that? [to the top]

    The Internet Explorer loads all installed Add-ons at startup. It also loads the CM Password Manager plugin for automatic completion and fill in of Web forms.
    If this interferes the usability you can disable the Add-on. Please note that the fill in and completion will not work when the Add-on is disabled. To turn off the Add-on Windows XP Servicepack 2 / Windows Vista is required. To disable the CM Password Manager Add-on please do the following:

    • Open the Internet Explorer and select Extras - Manage Add-ons...

    • Select the entry FormPlugIn Class of the vendor WIBU-SYSTEMS AG and set the option Disable in the area Settings.

    The Internet Explorer will now start as before.

18. How can I remove the CM Password Manager entries from my CmStick? [to the top]

    The CM Password Manager utility under Start - Programs - CM Password Manager - Utility can be used to remove all CM Password Manager entries from your CmStick.
    Hint: Note that all data will be deleted irrevocably. We recommend to backup the data to prevent data loss.
